A socio-political group in Yewa,Ogun State, Yewa Frontiers, has denied that the good people of Yewa had adopted Honourable Abdulkabir Akinlade, as its consensus candidate ahead 2019 governorship election. In a statement signed by its President, David Odebiyi and Secretary, Akeem Isiaka, in Ilaro yesterday, the group said Akinlade is solely Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s candidate and that of a few compromised APC chieftains in Yewa area of the state. It added that the Yewa people do not have any consensus candidate but that the consensus and sentiments shared by all is that the candidate must be a young, energetic and innovative individual that will transform the state with developments. According to the statement, Yewa is made up of different political parties and groups adding that the APC does not have the power to arrogate to itself the right to pick a candidate for the entire zone. The statement read in parts:”Yewa Frontiers is a long standing association of professionals and successful indigenes of Yewa both home and in diaspora and we hereby state unequivocally that the APC consensus candidate, Akinlade is not presented by the Yewa people as a whole but by some Yewa APC members. ” That the Yewa people do not have a consensus candidate yet but they have consensus need for a young ,energetic, smart Yewa son, preferably below 45 years of age , without blemish and with new ideas to become Governor in 2019. ” That the general public and Ogun state indignes, particularly Yewa sons and daughters should disregard any information about the APC candidate being the consensus candidate of Yewa “That Yewa people are members and stake holders in diffrent political parties so how can the APC arrogate the power to pick a consensus candidate for the Yewa people on itself knowing fully well that the ruling party has done nothing in the interest of the good of the Yewa people in the last 8 years to deserve any moral justification of picking a consensus canditate for Yewa. “We make bold to say that any Yewa consensus candidate picked by the apc is an extention of the present status quo. In essence its like giving Governor Amosun an Egba man another eight years.”
